Google Earth has changed the way we look at the world, and now we can see cities and places all around the world in just a few clicks, and you can even walk around the streets as if you are really there. It has become quite an affordable way of seeing the world without leaving the comfort of your sofa.
However, these google earth images could tell a hidden and some cases quite a scary story and will make you wonder what is going on there.
Reddit is a great place to find some of these mysterious stories, and I have gone around and found some of the best satellite images from Google Earth that may leave you wondering and wanting further explanation. Some of the images below are purely beautiful, and I would go as far as saying they are art. While some need further explaining.
The Eerie Uninhabited Settlement
According to the internet, this group of well-planned buildings popped onto our screens around 2013. Still, no visible markings are left by vehicles or people, leading us to believe that nobody travels there, making it completely uninhabited.
Pits From a Salt Extraction
When the person who took this screengrab from google Earth first saw it, they thought it might have been an archaeological dig. However, it is the holes left behind from an old fashioned salt mine, but as you can see, it looks like colourful pebbles or even an abstract piece of art.
Murder On The Pier?
This image has been doing the rounds for a long time and for a while we were unsure what was going on. It does look like someone is pulling their victim’s body to the edge of the pontoon in the middle of nowhere. However, it turns out it is just a wet dog who had gone for a bit of a swim and is now drying out on the pier.
An Oasis in the Desert
Is this a mirage? or is it an oasis in the middle of a desert? Nope, it really is a massive green patch in the middle of a desert. In this satellite photo, you can see lines, and they are all leading to this oasis and animals, and people create them, whether it be in their cars or on foot.
A Stunning Meteor Crater
When you think of meteors, you don’t associate them with hitting Earth, but they have done many times. You would also be surprised by how many people do not realise that they leave huge craters you can see from space. In this one, this crater is now a lake and what a beautiful lake it is.
A Tiny Private Island Off the Coast of Maine
This is a small island on the east coast of America and has one solitary road leading to it. The bridge to the island has a gate, and on this island, it has one house that overlooks a shipping lane in Penobscot bay. What a place to simply sit and watch the world go by and escape from the world.
Pearl Harbour Memorial
In this photo taken from Google Earth, you can see Pearl Harbour, which is just off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii, and you can see the USS Arizona battleship. The USS Arizona was one of 4 ships sunk in the harbour in 1941. The USS Arizona was not raised, so built the memorial over it to remember that terrible event.
Arizona’s Giant Triangle
No this is not the Bermuda triangle, but it is a massive triangle in Wittmann, Arizona. The triangle is a long-abandoned airbase named Luke Aux #4.
This Building Looks Like a Symbol
The architects of this building in Coronado, California, did not think about the building’s shape or what it would look like from the air. Why would this building be allowed to be built and why have they not been told it needs changing.
A Fort in Lille, France
This interesting building in France is a Pentagonal citadel in the city of Lille. This fort was in the 1600s, and it was the headquarters for a section of the French government. Parts of this Fort have been classified as historic monuments.
Crazy Unknown Pattern in the Sand
There is a mysterious pattern in the desert at Red SeaGovernorate in Egypt. A mixture of domes and indents kept the internet on tenterhooks until three artists revealed it was their doing. However, for a while, people thought that that aliens had landed.
The Largest Swimming Pool Ever
This is the worlds largest swimming pool, and it is in the San Alfonso del Mar Resort in Valparaiso, Chile and is thought to be about 3000 feet long and 115 feet deep.
Shipwreck Forest
You would think that this is just some landmass however it is the SS Ayrfield that is still shipwrecked in Homebush bay in Sydney Australia. Those trees are growing out of the wrecked ship, which is quite impressive.
The Guitar Forest
A forest shaped like a guitar containing eucalyptus and cypress trees was made to commemorate the life of the lost love of farmer Pedro Martin Ureta in Argentina.
A Phallus Building
Once again, bad design or good design by architects have been at it again. This phallus-like building is to believe it or not a church. In Dixon, the Christian Science Church designer, Illinois did not intend for it to look like it does it just ended up coming that way.
The Nevada Desert Bull’s Eye
Deep in the Nevada desert’s heart, this massive bull’s eye target is like what someone would see when they are aiming a gun. This Nevada desert bull’s eye is thought to be a testing site for aerial bombing.
The Lips In The Desert
These what look like lips are not part pf any rock formation but are the combination of red and yellow sand. The sun reflects off the sand, which creates a large mirage in the desert that looks like lips right in the heart of the Nyala Sudan Desert.
Oil Fields in Argentina
This looks like a complicated network, but you see several oil fields in Rio Negro, Argentina. Looking at this impressive network, it covers a lot of land and is unforgettable.

This is no mystery just great marketing by Mattel in El Segundo, California. Mattel is creators of many popular toys, but the one you are probably familiar with is the barbie doll.
Underwater Tidal Channels in Denmark
This google earth image shows the tidal channels underneath the Wadden Sea in Denmark. You could lose yourself looking at this image.

A Volcano in Russia
This symmetrical volcano in Russia is almost a work of art. The land spreads out evenly creating equally sized cones along its edges of this massive landmass.
Symbols in Nevada Desert
Symbols in the Nevada desert often appear and just like this 6 point start surrounded by a circle. Thoughts of people online are that this is where missiles are launched from. What do you think?
This Rainbow Aeroplane
Have you ever seen a rainbow colour aeroplane? Well, you have now. We have no idea what caused this aeroplane to look like this, but the sun reflecting off it likely caused this rainbow effect as the aeroplane flew over Cathy Terrace Englewood Cliffs in New Jersey.
A Heart-Shaped Lake
This private heart-shaped lake in Columbia station Ohio surrounded by gardens with some trees and a small road. From the images, it does not look like this lake is open to the public so good luck trying to take a romantic swim here.
A Bull’s Eye in a Triangle
The Nevada desert has some crazy things going on, and in this satellite photo, there is a triangle with what looks like a bullseye right in the heart of it. This triangle is perfectly symmetrical. Very mysterious.

Tucson, Arizona is the final resting place for lots of government and military aircraft. Just looking at this image, you get a feel for how big a graveyard this is.
