Today we leave Christchurch; we are heading south along the scenic route towards Otematata Where we had pre-booked nights stay.
We stopped at Lake Tekapo for photos and a wee, and we then headed along the coast roads to Lake Pukaki for more photos and another wee. We also stopped and admired Mount Cook for a second, but we could not see its peek because of the low cloud.
We arrived in a very quiet town call Otematata, and we went to their local shop for the essentials, well Jane looked for them I bought chocolate and bread.
We then made it to our hostel. However, no one was there, and after many phone calls to the different owners, it came apparent that they did not know who we were or in fact that we had even booked a night to stay. But the trouble has they had no rooms either, so we decided to head to the next town.
3 Hours later and we are still looking for a youth hostel. We have driven almost to Dunedin now, and we are cold, hungry and tired. We find a fish and chip shop, and we eat the best fish and chips ever it was hot and fishy…. perfect!!!
We stop at lots of hostels and because it’s a bank holiday…. guess what for??…. bloody queens birthday…. I know it’s our queen yet they get a public bloody holiday……. grrrrrrr!! There are no rooms we are running out of options and at 20:00 we are getting stressed!!
The decision was made to drive all the way to Dunedin and find a youth hostel there and spend two nights here, after three hostels we find one. It was not the Ritz, yet it had a bed, and that was all that mattered…. we were soon fast asleep.
